Wembley 2 - 2 Horley Town
Town travelled to Wembley in the League and came away with a hard fought draw. Wembley have signed a lot of new players and it showed they will not be down the lower reaches of the League for long. Goal keeper Stewart Devlin was not available so Dave Roffey had to step in between the sticks. Most of the players and supporters got lost and late getting to the ground as the post code was wrong which upset Town preparation.
Wembley started well and only the slopping pitch which was very muddy and slippery on the top side broke through after only seven minutes but shot wide of the target. Horley came straight back at Wembley and a Michael Death corner went close. On sixteen Wembley broke again down the wing but this time Dave Roffey came out well and saved with his feet. With eighteen played after a quick free kick from Town, skipper Danny Guscott got a good header in but the keeper saved well. Three minutes later and Adam Pullen broke into the box and his shot went just wide of the upright. Wembley went on the attack and shot and hit the upright and the ball bounced out to safety. With fifteen left Toby Gilbert had a strong header which the keeper just managed to tip round the post. With fourteen left a good ball from Adam Pullen found Michael Death whose attempt to lob the home keeper saw the ball go just over the cross bar. With six left a Michael Death corner found Gilly in the box and his shot beat the keeper but was cleared on the line by a home defender. With five minutes left in the half Wembley broke on the right again beat the defence and scored in the bottom corner. In the dying minutes it was all Horley with Michael Death and Danny Guscott both going close but Horley still went in at half time losing one nil.
The second half saw Horley on the attack and after only four minutes Adam Pullen went in and his shot was saved on the line. Next Mickey Norris picked up a booking for a 50 50 ball. With nineteen played a corner on the left was met by Danny at the near post and his perfect header went in to the bottom corner of the net to make it one one. Wembley went straight on the attack and Dave Roffey pulled of a fantastic one handed save to keep Town in the game. With fifteen left a good free kick from Michael Death saw Danny Guscott's header well saved by the keeper. With nine left Wembley broke again but shot high and wide with the ball on its way to Wembley staduem. This was followed by a goal mouth scramble which saw three Horley shots all cleared in the box the last from Michael Death. With two minutes left Wembley crossed from the left and Dave Roffey got up with both hands on the ball the forward knocked the ball out of his hand and scored for Wembley to make it two one. Chris Weller went in the book for arguing. Three minutes into injury time with the Horley lads never giving up Ben Hardman scored a fine goal to give Horley a share of the points which they thoroughly deserved.
